Search or list the tradable equity symbol universe for an exchange. Pass q to substring-match on symbol or company name (case-insensitive), and/or exchange (default US) and limit. Returns matching listings with symbol, display symbol, description (company name), security type (e.g. Common Stock, ETF), currency, MIC, and FIGI. Use it to resolve a name to a ticker or enumerate a market. Data by Finnhub.
/api/stocks/symbolsPAYMENT-SIGNATURE.The symbols API is a pay-per-call stocks endpoint built for AI agents and autonomous software. Search or list the tradable equity symbol universe for an exchange.
There is no signup and no API key. An agent (or any HTTP client) hits the endpoint, receives an x402 "402 Payment Required" challenge, signs a sub-cent USDC payment on Base or Solana, and retries — the data comes back on the paid request. That makes it a drop-in symbols data source for an agent tool-use loop, an MCP host, or a backend that needs stocks data on demand without onboarding to yet another vendor portal.
